An eCommerce behemoth gets even bigger

Amazon.comemployees are surely shouting a collective “woot” today, (pun absolutely intended) as they celebrate a new acquisition for the already huge eCommerce player.

According to a NYTimes article published yesterday, Amazon.com has agreed to purchase Woot, the deal-a-day site that has become increasingly popular among online shopping deal diggers, despite its considerably unconventional sales tactics. Woot, with a membership of 2.75 million, was one of the first sites to offer a single item that is available for purchase for 24 hours or until it is sold out. Similar such sites have cropped up in the eCommerce platform offering daily deals on singular items – such as Groupon, the site that offers city-specific coupons for various retailers like restaurants, sports clubs, spas and more.

There’s no debate that these one-off sale sites are already changing eCommerce. What do you think about these and about the ever-expanding humongous online retail sites?
