I don’t know about you guys, but for me, bounce rates are one of those Google Analytics stats that I love to ignore. So I got a high bounce rate, so what? I got like a million visitors! No?
Ok maybe that’s NOT the best approach – all analytics are important, I know, I know. But what IS bounce rate anyway? Maybe the lack of understanding contributes to aforementioned apathy? No more of that for now, thanks to this nifty infographic from KissMetrics, which outlines just what bounce rates are all about. Here’s a few highlights:
– The bounce rate is equated by taking the total number of visits viewing one page only divided by the total entries to the page.
– The average bounce rate for retail sites is 20 to 40 percent – not too bad!
– The average bounce rate for portals, such as MSN, Yahoo Groups, etc., is 10 to 30 percent.
